In the dying moments, sheer ecstasy broke out for Chelsea and caretaker boss Calum McFarlane as Enzo Fernández forced home a dramatic equaliser. The goal left Pep Guardiola howling at the heavens and provided the stand-in Chelsea manager a truly golden moment. On paper, Guardiola versus McFarlane was the Premier League's greatest managerial mismatch in class, making the recollection of Fernández's pivotal intervention one to cherish the 40-year-old throughout his career.

A Stark Contrast in Pedigree

On the home bench was the generation's pre-eminent figure, a man with four decades of silverware for football's giants Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City, taking charge of his 1,012th match. In the visitors' dugout, was a former coach at lower-league sides Croydon and Whyteleafe, who had worked in City's own academy and arrived to make his first-team debut after being seconded from his regular role guiding Chelsea's youth teams.

Another key part of his game plan was to disrupt at every turn. Jeers rang out whenever Chelsea delayed at a set-piece, a sure sign the City's tempo was being broken up and the Guardiola plan was being thwarted.
