'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Ethan Galbraith continues battle with City.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he remembers the thrilling dying seconds of his team's epic comeback win against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup. The game wrapped up with Galbraith picking up a fan's glasses amid the post-goal scrum.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith struck the post with a powerful shot from outside the box, and the defender promptly slammed home the loose ball before racing off toward the home end to mark the goal, with the crowd mobbing the players.

Extraordinary Turnaround

This capped an unbelievable turnaround given Swansea had been behind 2-0 during the final 45 minutes. Amid the delirium, there was some minor mishaps. He shared, "There was a spectator shouting out and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were wondering: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're people, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Manchester City Challenge

The victory booked a fourth-round fixture at home against Manchester City on Wednesday, a club Galbraith ran close at the comparable phase of the FA Cup with the London side in February. The athletic midfielder had a prime vantage point when Orient took the lead in stunning style, with a teammate's long-range effort from about long distance going in via the crossbar and the opposition keeper. Many argued that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have expected they would've awarded it to him for taking the effort on from that range," commented Galbraith, who began the game centrally before moving to right defensive wing after the team changed tactics. That meant competing with the England international, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the attacker was among the opposition who praised the way his former team played positively.

City's Quality

"Physically they are exceptional but even the basics and simple things, they can just do it over and over again," he explains. "It feels like they always find their target and they know how to control and slow down a game. You can think you're holding your own and then suddenly they will just deliver a through ball through a line without you even seeing. You have to be switched on every second of the game. It demands a resilient mindset and focus just to remain competitive."

Swansea Move

Swansea pushed to sign Galbraith in January and secured his signature to bring him in in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He became a favorite as a popular figure across two seasons at Leyton Orient and has rapidly replicated that in his new home. At his previous team he joined forces once more with Richie Wellens, who previously gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in first-team action on loan at his loan club from Manchester United. Then came a spell at fourth-tier the Manchester club, before he departed his boyhood club.

Growth Journey

"I was likely a bit naive going into senior level. I think a lot of players would say youth team games is very different. Sometimes it seems possession is exchanged without real physicality. You see few hard challenges. Once you start playing professional matches you have to adjust fast."

National Team Success

His progress reflects that maturation for club and country, performing well for the Green and White Army, who are fighting to qualify for the World Cup next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has started the last several matches, including both legs fixtures against the German national team. The ex-coach, Galbraith's former international manager, gave him the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he controls possession and his knack for a killer pass.

Starting Out

It has been a remarkable path for the player from the neighborhood in the Belfast suburb, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who used to see his parent, his father, also a central player, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Manchester United Experience

Galbraith's single match for United came in Central Asia in 2019, a Europa League trip to Astana, where they featured on an plastic turf and the venue ceiling was sealed owing to the weather of freezing cold. "That proved to be a lengthy journey and it was freezing," he says, chuckling. "The week before, myself and quite a few of the young lads worked out jointly, so that assisted our preparation. Just to join the main group and earn some playing time at the end was unbelievable."

Departing Old Trafford

How hard was it to leave United, the club he joined from Linfield aged 16? "This turned out fairly simple, because I arrived at the moment where I realized I wouldn't break through at the top level. I'm very appreciative for the time I spent there but it reached a stage where I felt I had to take a different path, move to a lower level and play men's football. Now I'm steadily progressing again."

New Environment

This occurs during mid-afternoon at the club's training ground but Galbraith has a commitment at late afternoon: a learner's exam, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Prior to relocating to Sketty, the mid-twenties player was a regular in Swansea's so-called team minibus, a team vehicle driven by club employees, Pete and Howard, which shuttles players to and from training and matches.

"My companions include a teammate, another squad member, the midfielder – Melker Widell used to be in it but has started driving. It's enjoyable to spend time with the guys but I'm planning to be the next one to drive independently and behind the wheel. His teammate likes to pull a few pranks; he's always up to all sorts."

Public Engagement

When he represented his former club, Galbraith would blend in with followers on the Tube after starting his journey at Brentwood. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
